Catrina Otomí is part of the Voices of Mexico collection and celebrates the creative spirit of the Otomí people, one of Mexico’s oldest Indigenous groups whose roots reach back thousands of years, long before the rise of the Aztec Empire.
Through a contemporary artistic interpretation, this icon draws from the circular symbolism of the sun, a source of life, energy, and continuity reimagined through vibrant forms and movement. The headpiece, inspired by the artwork of Kathy Sosa, brings together flowers, butterflies, hummingbirds, and miniature skeletons to express the balance between life and death that defines the Otomí worldview.
Otomí culture is deeply spiritual, grounded in a vision of harmony between humans, animals, and nature. This profound connection embraces the duality of existence, where life and death are not opposites but reflections of one another—a philosophy that resonates powerfully within Día de Muertos traditions.
